Azerbaijani FM informs NATO on normalization process with Armenia

(MENAFN) Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov briefed NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska on Thursday regarding the ongoing normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

According to a statement from the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, the discussion in Baku covered diplomatic initiatives and confidence-building measures aimed at securing “sustainable and lasting peace” in the region, as well as projects related to regional transport and connectivity.

The meeting also addressed the current cooperation agenda and prospects for Azerbaijan-NATO partnership, the work carried out under existing partnership mechanisms, and broader regional and international security issues. Both sides emphasized the significance of Azerbaijan-NATO collaboration, noting that their dialogue and joint activities “positively contribute to regional security.”

Bayramov highlighted Azerbaijan’s experience in NATO peace support operations and missions, its involvement in Afghanistan, defense reforms, and efforts to ensure military adaptability. Opportunities for further cooperation were discussed in areas such as demining, cybersecurity, and other sectors, alongside exchanges on bilateral and regional matters of mutual interest.

NATO had announced earlier that Shekerinska would undertake a two-day visit to Baku starting Wednesday, during which she was also scheduled to meet with Parliament Speaker Sahiba Gafarova and Elchin Amirbayov, the president’s special representative.
